The Flagship Chinese Institute offers motivated students the chance to accelerate their language learning with a dedicated cohort of friends and instructors. It gives you the chance to boost your Chinese, away from the distractions of other obligations. Participants must be willing to take a Language Pledge, making a commitment to immersive language learning.
One year of language instruction in 2 focused months
FCI offers first, second, and third year language instruction. You are enrolled as an Indiana University student for two months—typically from early June to late July—and earn course credits from Indiana University Bloomington.
Each day you receive four hours of classroom instruction, reinforced with language laboratories and individual tutorial sessions. You also participate in extracurricular activities, take meals with fellow students and teachers, and reside in a community sustained by the Language Pledge.
Weekend activities also reinforce your language development. Participation in authentic life tasks takes you beyond campus into the surrounding community.Learn about tutors Discover extracurricular activities
